In Europe 3 million bikes are abandoned each year, whilst millions of new bikes are bought at the same time. The bike industry is centralized in Asia, this means that resources get needlessly turned into new bikes and get shipped halfway across the globe to replace abandoned bikes. At Recovélo we believe this causes a lot of unnecessary pollution and CO2 output. That is why we started our circular business model, in which we give many (e- and pedal) bikes a 2nd life, whilst re-integrating vulnerable groups in our inclusive workshop where we train them into bike mechanics. On average we reuse up to 85% of the original materials to refurbish bikes. Meaning that our bike produces 85kg less tons of CO2 compared to the average newly produced bike.
